Firms concerned about political risk
POST REPORTERS
Business executives say political risk is again an issue following the Election Commission's decision to red-card House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat for campaign offences during the run-up to the Dec 23 general election.
Reports that former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, former leader of the dissolved Thai Rak Thai party, will return to Thailand tomorrow from self-exile also raised concerns.
Vudhigorn Suriyachantananont, vice-president of Toyota Motor Thailand, said political uncertainties remain a key worry for businesses.
''We are keeping a close eye on the political situation,'' he said.
''I hope that things will not be worse than last year.''
Thai stocks fell 0.49% yesterday in a roller-coaster session dominated by political concerns.
The SET index closed at 834.67 points, down 4.07, in trade worth 22.66 billion baht.
The index fell as low as 824.62 points before rebounding in bargain hunting.
